LOOKING ASKEW, 2025
Handbuilt ceramic sculpture
Looking Askew presents a compact, upright form with openings set at different heights and angles. The sculpture avoids symmetry and frontal clarity, revealing itself only as the viewer shifts position and looks from the side.
Handbuilt intuitively in ceramic, the piece emerged without a fixed plan. Through touch, response, and adjustment, the form developed gradually, allowing imbalance, curiosity, and movement to guide its shape.
By encouraging the viewer to circle the object and engage from less expected angles, Looking Askew reflects on how perspective changes when we step away from the obvious — and how meaning often appears when we choose not to look straight on.
